Review: One Night Stand
A non-stop review in poetry, prose and music
The Lemon Tree, Aberdeen

One Night Stand kicks off New Words 2011, the groundbreaking festival that
features performances not only in Aberdeen but also at a number of venues in towns
and villages throughout Aberdeenshire.
The festival got off to an impressive start last Thursday night with the Lemon Tree
Writers One Night Stand, a non-stop revue of poetry, prose and music
brought together and directed by Robert Ramsay. Seventeen members of the group entertained
the audience with a selection of their writing that ranged from the dramatic to
reflective to comical. Amongst those taking part were E. E. Chandler, Elizabeth
Reinach, Knotbrook Taylor, Alasdair Gordon, Marie Joaquim, Martin Walsh, Richard
Anderson, Robert Ramsay, Chris Andrews, Morna Annandale and Helen Elizabeth Ramsey
with songs by Morag Skene, Colin Edwards and Tom Dailly and music by Simon Gall,
Mike Rae and Haworth Hodgkinson.
Other events promoted by the Lemon Tree Writers at this year's New Words festival
include Self Publishing a Novel, Steven Porter's experience with publishing
his novel Countries of the World and the launch on Saturday 24 September
at 11am in the Douglas Hotel of the latest Lemon Tree Writers chapbook Himself by
the Seaside.
Established eighteen years ago, the Lemon Tree Writers meet fortnightly on Saturdays
from 11am until 1pm in the Douglas Hotel, Market Street, Aberdeen to discuss new
writing and organise readings and workshops. Over the years the group has produced
a number of publications, the more recent of which are available from local bookshops
or at any Lemon Tree Writers event.
